Crossing Membership Interview Questions

At Crossing, we see Membership as one of the best ways we have to pastor our people. The following Membership questions are not meant to unnecessarily pry into our potential members’ lives but to give us a window into your current life season which will help us do our job of caring for your soul in the best way we can. Because we believe that all of life is spiritual, we have purposely structured the questions to speak to the whole of life. Please be as honest as you can in answering the questions and know that there are no wrong answers. You do not have to have answers written down before you come in for your interview. We simply provide them to let people know up-front what we will be asking about.

Faith

• Tell us how you came to know Jesus Christ.
• If you were going to tell someone else how to become a Christian, what would you tell them?
• Tell us your baptism story.
• If you are married and/or have children, please tell us what you are doing as a family to encourage them in their faith (bedtime stories, devotions together as a couple, books you read to the children, etc.)

Family

• If you are married, share with us a little about your marriage. Is this a good season/a hard time/ “life as usual” etc.? If you are single, tell us your current experience (engaged/looking/waiting!)?
• Tell us about your family. Is there any serious concern weighing (marriage struggling/communication difficulties/feeling ‘lost’ as a parent/unruly or struggling child/infertility/unusual stress)?
• In evaluating the rhythm of your life (and/or family life), do you feel like you are operating at a healthy, sustainable pace?

Friends

• Do you currently have friends within the Crossing Community that you connect with outside the church gatherings on a regular basis?
• Do you have other Believing friends in the Louisville area?
• Do you have Unbelieving friends/neighbors/etc. that you are investing in hopes of bringing them to Jesus?

Fun

• What are some things that you/family enjoy doing?
• What would be your “Ultimate Dream” for your life? (Be honest!)

Future

• How long do you see yourself/family staying in Louisville?
• What do you see as the ‘next big thing’ for your family (move/new baby/etc.)?

Finances

• Describe for us your current financial situation at home (Stressed/Tight But O.K./Need Equipping in this Area/Healthy and Could Equip Others)
• Because you’ve been through Crossing Essentials, you know that our expectation here at Crossing is for our members to be investing at least 10% of our income in the ministry of Crossing Church. Are you currently doing that? If not, please explain.
• How can we help you move in this direction?

Crossing

• Are you currently a faithful attender of Crossing’s Sunday Gathering and a Community Group? How well do you feel like you are connected to the members of your Community Group?
• Have you carefully listened to both sessions of Crossing Essentials and filled out your Spiritual Gift Inventory? (You are also welcome to carefully read the BFM 2000 and the Acts 29 Doctrinal Statement which we align ourselves with.) Do you agree with, or at least, in good conscience, submit to these documents, understanding that we cannot permit anyone teaching outside of these bounds?
• Where do you see yourself plugging into Crossing’s current ministries?

Misc.

• Have you ever been disciplined (been ‘called out’ for some kind of sin) by another church?
• Is there anything you haven’t told us so far that you think we should know that you may regard as a ‘secret’ (embarrassing addiction/serious illness/etc.)
