Though certainly no substitute for the Gospel, we believe that authentic spiritual community is something that is close to God’s heart throughout the entirety of the Scriptures. God has always had a people and those people have always, to some degree, lived in community.
To this end, our goal is to not simply be a group of people that attends church services together, but truly seeks to live our lives together for the glory of God and the good of the world. Thus, at Crossing, it is not uncommon for people to become extremely close with their “church family” spending lots of time with them outside of church functions, vacationing together and so on. For many, this has been a welcome change to their previous church experiences.
In addition, it is also our conviction that this kind of authentic spirituality is not an end in itself but rather the best context in which biblical discipleship (sanctification—the process of becoming like Christ) can occur. We believe that the ultimate spiritual adventure is to begin to investigate, evaluate, and implement the teachings of God revealed to us through the Holy Scriptures. We believe that this happens best in a community and not as a “lone ranger” Christian.
